Diesel Maintenance, Emissions Intact

Power Stroke, Cummins, Duramax — filters, fluids, glow plugs and driveline

We maintain 6.7 Power Strokes, 6.7 Cummins and Duramax trucks the way they are supposed to be maintained: fuel filters on schedule, real oil capacity with the right spec oil, the DEF system kept full and functioning, glow plugs and batteries checked before winter. That is the bulk of what carries a modern diesel to 300,000 miles, and it is what we do six days a week in Argyle.

We are equally clear about what we do not do. Internal engine work — injectors, turbos, head gaskets, high-pressure fuel pumps — goes to a diesel machine shop we trust, and we will tell you who to call. We do not chase check-engine lights or drivability faults, and we are not a licensed Texas state inspection station. Knowing where our work stops is part of doing the rest of it well.

And we do not delete emissions equipment. Not the DPF, not the EGR, not the SCR or DEF system, and not a tune that switches any of it off. We will not do it on your truck and we will not sell you the parts to have it done down the road. That is a firm line, not an opening position, and it is why a truck we maintain resells clean.

What We Offer

Fuel Filters

Most modern diesels run two filters, one on the frame rail and one on the engine. We replace both as a set with the correct micron rating and prime the system properly instead of cranking it dry.

Water Separator

Diesel pulls water out of the air through every humid North Texas summer. Draining the separator takes two minutes and is the cheapest thing standing between you and a fuel system repair bill.

DEF System Service

We fill with fresh DEF, inspect the header, lines and cap for crystallized buildup, and tell you plainly what a DEF warning message is counting down toward before it becomes a speed limit.

Glow Plugs and Cold Starts

Long cranks on a thirty-degree Denton County morning, white smoke and a rough idle usually point at glow plugs or the controller. We test the circuit and identify the dead cylinders before replacing parts.

Oil and S&B Filtration

A 6.7 holds twelve to fifteen quarts, so a shortcut oil change is an expensive habit. We use correct-spec oil, change air filters on schedule, and install S&B intakes and filters.

Dual Batteries

Diesel trucks run two batteries in parallel. Replace one and leave a tired partner and the new battery is dragged down within months, so we load test both and replace them as a matched pair.

What Actually Goes Wrong With Diesel Maintenance

A diesel fuel filter is not a gas filter. On a gas engine the filter protects an injector running at fifty psi. On a common-rail diesel it protects a high-pressure pump and injectors operating near thirty thousand psi with clearances measured in microns, and diesel fuel is the only thing lubricating that pump. A neglected filter or a cheap aftermarket element lets debris and water through, and the resulting failure sends metal through the entire fuel system.

A DEF warning is a countdown, not a suggestion. Low fluid, bad fluid or a failed quality sensor starts a staged warning that ends with the truck limited to five miles per hour, and it will happen on the shoulder of 377 rather than in your driveway. DEF also has a shelf life and it crystallizes around fittings and caps. We top it off with fresh fluid and check the hardware while the truck is on the lift.

One weak battery takes out the other. Parallel batteries share load, and a cell that is going down pulls its partner into deep discharge every night it sits. The owner replaces the obviously dead one, the new battery works against the old one, and both are finished by the next cold snap. That is also why a diesel that cranks slow in December is often a battery and cable problem, not a glow plug problem.

Deleted trucks come back to bite the owner. Removing emissions hardware is a federal tampering violation, it makes the truck unsellable to dealers and to a lot of private buyers, it voids what is left of any powertrain coverage, and putting the system back on costs far more than leaving it alone ever would. We keep your emissions equipment working and documented so the truck stays legal, stays sellable, and stays yours to sell on your terms.

Common Questions

How often should diesel fuel filters be changed?

Plan on every 15,000 miles for most Power Stroke, Cummins and Duramax trucks, and sooner if you buy fuel from low-volume stations or the truck sits for long stretches. Both filters get changed together. We also drain the water separator at every service and any time you see the water-in-fuel light, because that light is telling you something is already in the tank.

The DEF light came on. Am I stranded?

Not yet, but the clock is running. Early warnings are a mileage countdown, and if you keep driving the truck derates first to reduced power and finally to a five mile per hour crawl. If it is simply low, fresh DEF and a key cycle clear it. If the fluid is fine and the light stays on, that is a sensor or header issue and we will point you to the diesel shop that handles it.

Will you delete my DPF or tune out the EGR?

No. We do not remove, bypass or disable DPF, EGR, SCR or DEF systems, and we do not install tunes that turn them off. This is not a price question or a paperwork question, and there is no version of the job we will take. If that is what you are after, we are the wrong shop, and we would rather tell you now than waste your afternoon.

Do you do state inspections or diagnose a check-engine light?

Neither. We are not a licensed Texas state inspection station, and we do not perform drivability or check-engine diagnostics. We do the maintenance side — filters, fluids, glow plugs, batteries, belts, hoses, driveline and 4WD work — and we refer engine internals and fault-code chasing to diesel specialists we work with in Denton County. Ask us and we will give you a name.
